Could Garrett Mitchell be a late-round steal?

- Garrett Mitchell has already made his presence known this spring by homering twice in the Brewers' opener against the Dodgers. He also showed his fantasy potential by going 8-8 stealing bases in a 28-game Major League audition at the end of last season.
The skepticism regarding the 24-year-old former first round pick is based on his lack of power numbers and big strikeout totals in the minors. The latter is a definite concern. He fanned in 41% of his plate appearances during his brief Major League stint. But Mitchell has plenty of bat speed and significant power potential. He just needs to stop hitting the ball on the ground so often.
As a fantasy outfielder, it'll likely be Mitchell's legs that provide him with much of his value as a rookie. He's a fantastic base stealer, having gone 34-37 in that department in 132 career minor league games. The strikeout will hold him back in terms of batting average. But because of his speed and strong exit velocity numbers, he likely will do well when he puts the ball in play. With the potential for 10 to 15 homers and 30-plus steals, he's a great upside pick late in drafts.
