Corbin Burnes becomes 2nd pitcher this season to tie Tom Seaver's 10 consecutive strikeout record

One of baseball's most notable records has been matched. Again.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes threw 10 straight strikeouts against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, tying a record held by Tom Seaver, who did it in 1970, and Aaron Nola, who did it earlier this season.

Burnes, among the leading candidates for the NL Cy Young Award this year, simply dominated the Cubs' depleted lineup:

A single by Matt Duffy, strikeout victim No. 2, ended the streak, but not before Burnes had matched a record that had gone untouched for 51 years until Nola did the same thing in June.

That achievement was apparently news to Burnes as he walked into the dugout, via Bally Sports Wisconsin:

"I had no idea. When I came in, [someone] said something and I was like 'What did I do? Why are we throwing the ball out of the game? What's going on? I had no clue."

This isn't the first time Burnes has made strikeout history this year. His 58 consecutive strikeouts without a walk to open the season shattered the preexisting MLB record of 40 previously held by Kenley Jansen.

Burnes would eventually finish with a line of eight innings, four hits, zero runs, zero walks and 15 strikeouts to improve his ERA to 2.23. The Brewers won 10-0.
