Who are the contenders for the NFL MVP race?

As we approach the final month of the NFL regular season, Yahoo Sports' Andy Behrens and Scott Pianowski break down the performances of our leading MVP candidates thus far.

Video Transcript

ANDY BEHRENS: Give us your read on the MVP race right now, is it-- I feel like maybe it's Brady's to lose, but Kyler came back really strong, had a nice game. Kyler actually-- Kyler leads the NFL, off the top of my head, I believe it's in completion percentage, yards per attempt, passer rating, a whole bunch of things that matter, but then Brady, of course, also leads the NFL in a whole bunch of things that matter including touchdown passes and passing yards, so if we're handing it out right now, is it Brady's?

SCOTT PIANOWSKI: Probably. Maybe, probably missed too much time, unless he ends with a ballistic run. We've said this a lot on this show and also with the show with Frank Schwab, it's close enough-- it's jumbled enough that it's the word still out there to be won. Somebody has to-- nobody's put in so much MVP goodwill that they can coast to the award now. I mean, whoever wins it is going to play very well over the final month of the season.

But if Brady plays well, it's hard for me to imagine him not winning. And I wonder if all the ancillary stuff with Rodgers, how the voting public will handle that. You know, because he's kind of become a little bit of Rodgers against the world, and I don't know if the vote-- he also won last year, sometimes fatigue can play into these things, they don't want to name the same guy every year but Brady is the favorite. I think Rodgers still has a chance.

But Murray, he has to come out smoking hot the rest of the year, and then have other people maybe not play their best. I'll tell you what, though, that was the most proactive running Murray I've seen all season. His rushing production was way down, and because he was playing hard. I don't remember early in the year if he was running that much, I don't think he really was, but you saw him with two touchdown runs.

There's a guy who did not look at all concerned about his health, a concern with his ankle--

ANDY BEHRENS: No, it looked easy. Looked easy.

SCOTT PIANOWSKI: He's like, OK, Chicago defense, guess what? You're about to get Murrayed.
