Conrad Weiser defeats North Pocono in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A boys soccer playoffs

Nov. 8—Gavin Rapp and Armaan Malik each had a goal and an assist to lead Conrad Weiser to a 3-1 win over North Pocono Tuesday in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A boys soccer playoffs at Moscow.

The victory was the Scouts' first in states since 1999, when they beat Middleburg 2-1 in the first round. Weiser is making its first appearance in the PIAA playoffs since 2003.

Malik scored in the first half to give the District 3 runner-up Scouts (22-4) a 1-0 lead.

The District 2 champion Trojans (18-4) tied on a goal by Elliot Bower with 23:42 left in the game.

Weiser took a 2-1 lead five minutes later on a goal by Julien Moll. Rapp scored off a corner kick from Malik with 1:37 left.

Gavin Wagner made six saves for the Scouts, who had advantages of 10-7 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.

Weiser will face District 1 runner-up Springfield Township — a 4-0 winner over Archbishop Ryan Tuesday — in a quarterfinal game Saturday, site and time to be announced.
