Connor McDavid to have hearing over head shot on Nick Leddy
While Connor McDavid has done a lot in the first four seasons of his NHL career, the Oilers captain has never received a suspension.
But that could change on Friday, when McDavid is set to meet with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety to discuss Thursday night’s illegal check to the head on Islanders defenceman Nick Leddy.

The incident occurred in the first period of Edmonton’s 4-3 win over New York, when McDavid landed a high hit on Leddy after the defenceman had just fired the puck on net from the blue line. The Oilers star, whose shoulder appears to make contact with Leddy’s head, was given a two-minute minor penalty on the play.

“Obviously it’s not a great check, it’s not what I was trying to do,” McDavid shared with the Edmonton Sun after the game. “I wasn’t trying to finish my check on him and he stopped a little earlier than I thought, and I hit him a bit too high.”
Leddy wound up finishing the game, logging 18:18 of ice time after clearing concussion protocol.
