Colts’ Shaquille Leonard ruled OUT vs. Texans

Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard (back) was ruled out Friday ahead of the Week 1 matchup against the Houston Texans.

While Leonard was able to log practices every day this week, the Colts are taking the cautious approach as he works his way back from offseason back surgery, which caused him to miss the majority of practices since January.

Leonard is the only player ruled out on the final injury report.

It isn’t clear if the Colts simply want him to rest during the opening week to ensure he can return in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars or if the timetable for return is still a few weeks away.

Regardless, the Colts will be without the heart of their defense when they visit the Texans at NRG Stadium on Sunday.
