Colorado’s next head coach doesn’t need to be a former Buff
The Colorado Buffaloes did it. They fired Karl Dorrell and have named Mike Sanford the interim head coach.
After an 0-5 start and three different starting quarterbacks, they finally made the move during the team’s bye week.
Now, the coaching search is underway, and questions are swirling about which direction the program should go in.
They hired Mel Tucker, then he left for Michigan State, and the Dorrell hiring never got its feet off the ground. So, once again, they are in the coaching search.
A lot of people are calling for a former Buff to take over as head coach, even suggesting some from the good old glory days of Colorado football.
However, Brian Howell of BuffZone suggested that doesn’t need to be the case.
Colorado fans, as you look ahead to the next coach, stop looking at former Buffs. Stop looking at ties to the glory days. Colorado needs a fresh set of eyes, a fresh perspective. Who? I don't know, but not a former Buff #cubuffs

A new perspective is probably the best bet for Colorado at this point. Things reached an all-time low this year. Sure, going winless isn’t the end of the world, but they were historically bad, even joining the 1957 Indiana Hoosiers on a lowly piece of history.
Ryan Walters is a popular name, and while it wouldn’t be a terrible idea, the Buffs should try looking outside the box.
That's fine. My point is, there doesn't need to be a requirement by some to get a Buff. If Walters is the top candidate, great.

The coaching search might take a while for Colorado, and Rick George has a massive hire to make in the coming weeks or months.
