Which colleges have the Patriots drafted from most? originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

It was yet another big NFL draft for Nick Saban and the Alabama football program.

The 2021 NFL Draft came and went with a total of 10 Alabama products hearing their name called, tied for the most with Ohio State. A record-tying six of those 10 Crimson Tide selections came in the first round, with wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, cornerback Patrick Surtain II, wideout DeVonta Smith, quarterback Mac Jones, offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood and running back Najee Harris all coming off the board in the first 24 picks.

It marked the third time in the last four years that Alabama either had or was tied for the most total draft picks and the fourth time in the last five years that at least 10 ’Bama players were selected.

Alabama has certainly dominated the draft as of late, but here’s a look at the schools that the New England Patriots have poached from most.

Which colleges have the Patriots drafted from most?

Michigan (26), Boston College (23), Notre Dame (17), Alabama (17), LSU (15), Miami (15), Oklahoma (15)

Since making their first draft pick in 1961, the Patriots have favored prospects from a select few schools. Michigan is the school in which the Patriots have selected the most prospects from, including franchise legends Tom Brady and Ty Law. The Patriots added two Wolverines in 2020 when they selected Josh Uche and Michael Onwenu, and another in 2021 with Cameron McGrone.

Boston College is the second most popular school for the Patriots, with 23 prospects coming from the nearby school. While the Patriots have drafted 23 players from BC, only two have come in the 21st century (Dan Koppen and Ron Brace).

Alabama, on the other hand, has seen most of its Patriots picks more recently. Mac Jones and Christian Barmore were drafted in 2021 to add to the list, with other current Patriots Dont’a Hightower, Damien Harris and Anfernee Jennings hailing from the Crimson Tide. Notre Dame, with 17 Patriots draft picks, is tied with Alabama for third. But New England hasn’t selected a Notre Dame player since 2007.

LSU and Miami (FL) are the next two most popular schools where the Patriots find their prospects. Recent LSU prospects haven’t fared well with the Patriots, as Danny Etling never played a regular season snap at QB after being selected in 2018. Vince Wilfork is the best of the 15 Patriots prospects to hail from Miami (FL).

Which colleges have produced the most Patriots first-round picks?

Georgia (5), Alabama (4), Boston College (3), Colorado (3), Miami (3), Ohio State (3), Purdue (3), Tennessee (3), Texas (3), USC (3)

In the first round, the Patriots tend to look at Georgia prospects. Patriots Hall of Famer and seven-time Pro Bowler Richard Seymour was the franchise’s best first-rounder from Georgia when he was selected in 2001. Current Patriots OT Isaiah Wynn and RB Sony Michel were both selected out of Georgia in the 2018 first-round. In 2021, Alabama QB Mac Jones made it four Crimson Tide products selected in the first round by New England.

After Georgia and Alabama, there is a glut of schools -- Boston College, Colorado, Miami, Ohio State, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas and USC -- each with three players selected by the Pats in the first round.
