College football Week 10 picks: TCU, Tennessee continue ATS dominance

College football Week 10 picks: TCU, Tennessee continue ATS dominance originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Week 10 of the college football season could be one to remember.

The defending champion and No. 1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs will host the surprise team of the year -- the No. 3 ranked Tennessee Volunteers -- in a matchup that will have a huge impact on the College Football Playoff rankings.

It's not the only highly anticipated game on the weekend's schedule, though.

We started the season with a fake $1000 budget and have made 28 picks against the spread in eight weeks. After going 0-3 in Week 9, our budget now sits at $1,225 entering Saturday.

Here are our three picks for Week 10 (All spreads via PointsBet).

Season record: 15-13

Texas Tech at No. 7 TCU (-8.5)

Wager: $50

Pick: TCU -8.5

TCU is a machine. The Horned Frogs rank No. 3 in the nation with 518.5 yards of offense per game and No. 3 in scoring at 44.3 points per game. TCU also is 4-0 versus ranked teams in 2022, while going 6-1-1 ATS through eight games.

The Horned Frogs rank No. 2 in the Big 12 with 217.9 rushing yards per game. This potent ground attack should be able to rack up yards and dominate the time of possession battle versus a Texas Tech defense that allows the fourth-most rushing yards per game (147.9) in the conference.

Texas Tech has lost five consecutive road games and four of their last five matchups versus TCU. The Red Raiders also have lost four of their last six games overall.

TCU will improve to 9-0 with a double-digit victory.

No. 3 Tennessee at No. 1 Georgia (-8)

Wager: $50

Pick: Tennessee +8

The best matchup of the season so far features a spread that's way too large.

Georgia deserves to be favored. They are 8-0, they are the defending champions, they are at home, and they have more experience in these high-pressure games late in the season.

But the Volunteers are a really good team with arguably the top Heisman Trophy candidate in quarterback Hendon Hooker. He's the primary reason why Tennessee leads the nation in both total yards (553) and points scored (49.4) per game. The Volunteers are 5-0 versus ranked teams this season and Hooker has thrown 14 touchdowns with only one interception in those games.

This game easily could be a shootout as both offenses rank among the best in the sport. It's hard to imagine either team winning by more than one touchdown. This is Tennessee's Super Bowl, and even if the Volunteers don't win, they should at least keep the score really close.

No. 24 Texas (-2.5) at No. 13 Kansas State

Wager: $50

Pick: Kansas State +2.5

The Wildcats just destroyed a very good Oklahoma State team 48-0 and they're 2.5-point underdogs at home to Texas? That's disrespectful to Kansas State.

The Longhorns were in a similar spot -- road favorites -- versus Oklahoma State a few weeks ago and lost 41-34. Texas also has lost five consecutive games versus ranked opponents. The Longhorns haven't covered the spread in their last five road games, too.

Kansas State is 6-2-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last nine games and 8-1 ATS in its last nine matchups at home versus Texas. The Wildcats are legit, and they are more trustworthy in a pivotal, late-season matchup than the Longhorns.
