College basketball: Ridgewater Warriors win a wild one

Jan. 24—WILLMAR — Aiden Wichmann sank a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left to lift Ridgewater College past Minnesota West Technical and Community College on Wednesday night.

Ridgewater beat Minnesota West 74-73 in a Minnesota College Athletic Conference men's basketball game. Ridgewater is now 3-4 in the MCAC South. Minnesota West is 1-6.

Minnesota West got a chance to win when Paul Fairley Jr. attempted a 3-pointer with one second left that missed.

Wichmann's 3-pointer came on a night when the Warriors struggled offensively, Ridgewater shot 32.8% from the field, making 21 of 64 field-goal attempts. Minnesota West shot 45.2%, 28 of 62.

Ridgewater used a 41-32 rebounding edge to keep it close. Marwan Abdi led the Warriors with 14 rebounds. He also had 15 points. He's a 6-foot-4 sophomore forward from St. Peter.

Wichmann led Ridgewater with 21 points. He's a 6-2 freshman guard from Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.

Noah Wilts, a 6-1 sophomore guard from Marshall, added 12 points for the Warriors.

Fairley Jr. led the Bluejays with 15 points.

Ridgewater's next game is at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.
