College Basketball | Chris Painter scores career-high as Mount Union beats Muskingum

Christian Parker and Chris Painter combined for 43 points to lead the Mount Union men's basketball over Muskingum 72-61 in Timken Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Purple Raiders (12-2, 6-2 Ohio Athletic Conference), ranked No. 17 nationally this week by d3hoops.com, took control with a 22-9 run midway through the first half. That flurry of points gave Mount Union a 34-17 lead with four minutes to go before halftime.

Painter's 21 points were a career-high. Parker also had eight rebounds.

Carson Carter led Muskingum (4-12, 1-8) with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while M.J. Smith scored 13 and Alex Massinelli finished with 11.

The Muskies committed 18 turnovers.

Mount Union women 66, Muskingum 48

NEW CONCORD — Senior Isi Palamone scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Mount Union's women's team snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Purple Raiders (5-8, 2-5 OAC) also got 10 points each by Emma Cannon and Maddy Miles.

Tanner Wirth had 12 points and Taylor DeMassimo added 11 for Muskingum (7-7, 2-5).

Both Mount Union teams return to action on Saturday in a doubleheader at Heidelberg. The women's game will tipoff at 2 p.m. with the men's game to follow. The Heidelberg men (12-2) are ranked No. 21 and handed the Purple Raiders a 91-72 defeat in Timken Gymnasium on December 4.
