May 23—Philip Wall tossed a five-hitter and Aaron Severson and Sam Peterson had three hits apiece as Northwestern powered its way to its first UMAC Baseball Tournament title with a 10-1 victory over St. Scholastica Saturday before 242 at Reynolds Field in St. Paul.

It was St. Scholastica's final UMAC contest, as the Saints go into the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference next season.

Wall finished with two strikeouts and five walks, only allowing Jake Schelonka's RBI single to score Mitchell Novak in the sixth inning. Schelonka and Kam Larson had two hits apiece to lead the Saints (20-9), while Mason Skrede added two hits, two runs, an RBI and walk for the Eagles (32-10), who had 13 hits. CSS would have had to defeat them twice to earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament.

Instead, it will be the Eagles making their first NCAA tournament appearance.

Northwestern looked every part of the top seed in two tournament meetings against the second-seeded Saints, outscoring them 27-3, including 10-running the Saints Friday for the first time in program history.

The Eagles' 32 wins are a school record.

Schelonka's double to center field scored Novak with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift St. Scholastica to a 2-1 victory over Bethany Lutheran in an elimination game Saturday.

Novak scored both the Saints' runs — accounting for all three CSS runs on the day — and had three hits against the Vikings. Schelonka had two hits as the duo combined for five of St. Scholastica's seven hits in the win.

Senior Dallas Miller did the rest as the righthander tossed a three-hitter, with eight strikeouts to help overcome five walks.

Vikings starter Adam Fjerstad allowed only one run in 5 2/3 innings while reliever Logan Nissen pitched the rest of the way, taking the loss.
