Patriots Talk Podcast: Colin Cowherd joins Curran to talk Brady, Pats originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

For those who participate in the Tom Brady vs. Bill Belichick debate, 2020 certainly was a big year for Team Tom as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback will play in his 10th Super Bowl.

On the other side, Belichick is coming off his worst season since 2000 when the Patriots finished 5-11.

What do the 2000 and 2020 seasons have in common? Brady wasn't New England's QB for either.

How Brady has fared vs. Reid and Mahomes over the years

Is this as simple as Brady winning the first year of the post-Patriots era, or is this an indictment of Belichick's ability to win without his former QB? FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd joined Tom E. Curran on a new Patriots Talk Podcast to discuss.

"It's now segued from 'Tom won the divorce' to 'there's a systemic problem in New England.' They need to give the personnel over to somebody else because Bill isn't good with skill people," Cowherd said." Over the last four or five years, I've had two people who used to work for New England in the personnel department say in January, Bill says 'I got it from here.' It doesn't work that way anywhere else. Bill has so much power. It's not working."

"They don't have a tight end, they don't have a top receiver, Sony Michel is a good two back. They've done a good job on the offensive line but this is a weapons league. Mahomes' nine losses on average, you have to score 36 points to beat him. They can't do that. You're not stopping him. ... Go back to the last five drafts. There are not a lot of dynamic players."

Cowherd even went so far as to say a subpar season for the Patriots next year could officially settle the Brady/Belichick debate, and maybe even give Andy Reid the edge over Belichick in the all-time head coach ranks.

"Eight years without Brady: six are losing, one non-playoffs. In New England and Cleveland. If he next year goes 6-10, it's official, he wins only with Brady," Cowherd said. "Andy Reid really dominated the NFC with Donovan McNabb as his best quarterback, got to a Super Bowl. Then he goes to the AFC, wins with Alex Smith. He's won with five or six quarterbacks. If Andy wins this Super Bowl, and then two more over the next four or five years, we will be able to say, 'Well Bill could never win beyond Brady, it was obviously Brady.' "

Also discussed in the new episode: Cowherd on whether Chiefs are a dynasty if they win and why no one will miss the Patriots dynasty, Ira Kaufman of JoeBucsFan on the difference Brady has made for the Buccaneers, and is Brady the main reason the Bucs are in the Super Bowl?
