Colin C. Rhodes: Notebook: Fairmont Senior golfers, coach make inaugural North/South All-Star tournament

Jan. 20—FAIRMONT — On Jan. 10, the West Virginia Athletic Directors Association announced on Facebook the inaugural North/South All-Star Golf Tournament.

The tournament features the same teams as other North/South All-Star games: the North Bears and the South Cardinals. Both teams will have eight golfers and a head coach from various schools in the northern and southern halves of West Virginia.

Three golfers and a head coach represent Marion County in the tournament. Fairmont Senior's Caleb Young, Caden Musgrove and Lanae Street will participate as golfers for the North, and Fairmont Senior Head Coach Luke Corley will coach the North Bears.

"It is a great honor to be selected to be the head coach for this event," Corley said via text message. "I think it is a great thing the WVADA is doing. It gives high school seniors another opportunity to be recognized for all the hard work they have put in over their high school golf careers.

"Having three golfers selected to the team is an incredible accomplishment. Those three players have worked extremely hard their entire golf careers, and they will go down in West Virginia golf history as the first ever North Bears golf team. I am super proud of them all."

Young and Street both signed letters of intent in November to play golf at Fairmont State University. Teammate Gianna Koski will join them on the Falcons golf team.

Young also holds the honor of winning the Boys 17-18 Player of the Year from the West Virginia Golf Association. He placed fifth individually at the state tournament in October and received All-State honors.

The first ever North/South All-Star Golf Tournament will be held Monday, June 3 at the Little Creek Country Club in South Charleston.
