It’s beginning to look more and more like we’re watching the season of Cody Bellinger.

The Dodgers right-fielder added to an exceptionally strong MVP campaign on Monday with a whopper of a throw in the eighth inning against the Mets. With the bases loaded and the Dodgers up by three runs, Bellinger did this:

It doesn’t get any better than that.

The Mets actually challenged the out call at third base, but the umpires upheld the ruling that Carlos Gomez was late to the base. In a very Mets development, the umps also ruled that a jogging Tomas Nido didn’t reach home before the put-out, taking away a pivotal run.

That was Bellinger’s second assist of the night, as he also threw this beauty in the first inning.

Not bad for a player that spent the vast majority of his minor league career and rookie season as a first baseman. In a season where he has been unstoppable at the plate, Bellinger has been making large strides in the outfield.

Oh yeah, and Bellinger also did this in the third inning for his 19th home run of the season.

Bellinger is now hitting .383/.469/.761 this season with more walks than strikeouts. He leads MLB in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, hits, runs, RBIs, total bases and win probability added. He also ranks second in home runs, behind only Christian Yelich’s 21.

It’s May, and Bellinger has already set a new career-high in bWAR (4.9 entering Monday). We might be witnessing the dawn of something special in Los Angeles.
