There may be no Serena Williams at Wimbledon this year, but the American women are still making a strong impression at the All England Club. This year, it’s CoCo Vandeweghe playing some of her best tennis. The hard-hitting 24 seed defeated No. 5 Caroline Wozniacki 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Vandeweghe has never reached the Wimbledon semifinals — her only other quarterfinal appearance came in 2015 — but has really impressed so far. She hasn’t dropped a set in this tournament, and she was in peak form against Wozniacki. The powerful 25-year-old registered eight aces and 37 winners. Wozniacki, a former world No. 1, didn’t have a single ace and had just 16 winners. The 26-year-old’s quest for a first Slam title continues.

Vandeweghe will face Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia in the quarterfinal. Rybarikova is 2-0 all-time against Vandeweghe, but the two have met on grass only once, in 2011. With Venus Williams also through to the quarters, the United States is the only country with multiple women in the final eight.
