New coach set to lead Lady Tigers tennis

Mar. 25—While it will be a brand new role, a familiar face will be in charge of the Lebanon girls tennis program this spring.

Katie Hart, a 2017 Lebanon graduate, takes over the reins as the head coach after being an assistant for both the girls and boys programs.

"The transition has been pretty easy," Hart said. "Most of the girls know me, and it's a little bit of a difference, I have more responsibilities than before, but the girls know what I expect."

The Tigers have a good mix of younger and older players this year.

Lebanon does return five players from their sectional line-up a year ago, but there are also plenty of new pieces that are learning what it takes to compete at a high school level.

"We have a great group of seniors, they are very good leaders," Hart said. "But we are pretty young too, so I like that I will have a chance to develop them."

When looking at returning leaders, Ava Lehmkuhler returns after a successful season at No. 1 singles last year. Bianca Coronado, Kate Williams and Bre Page are all back for their senior years as well.

"They have been great leaders for us," Hart said. "They have been really important for us, especially helping some of the younger girls. They know how I expect the team to run and what we need to do."

Hart said one of the biggest strengths for the team has been how coachable they are.

She said they are able to pick up on a lot of different things quickly and are improving every day.

It is leading to big goals for the Tigers, who want to compete for the Sagamore Conference title, and with a new-look sectional this year, feel like they can be in the hunt for that as well.

The Tigers will get their season started on April 3 when they come back from Spring Break.

"We just want to continue to develop our skills and making sure we are making the right contact with the ball," Hart said. "All of that is going to help us get to our goals as a team."
