WEEK OF DECEMBER 20 - 26

Great Options

Tristan Jarry - Pittsburgh Penguins: Jarry is currently collecting wins as 2021 comes to a close. He is on a four-game win streak, which includes an impressive win against the best team in the league, the Washington Capitals. He allowed just two goals on 31 shots during that matchup back on December 10th. Jarry’s record currently sits at 14-5-4. He has a save percentage of .933 and a GAA of 1.92. The Penguins will play the New Jersey Devils and the Philadelphia Flyers this next week.

Cam Talbot - Minnesota Wild: With the exclusion of the game on December 12th against the Vegas Golden Knights, Talbot has been playing pretty well as of late. Especially with all of the recent postponements, Talbot is definitely a great option in net. He has a record of 15-6-1. Through 22 total appearances this season he has accumulated a save percentage of .919 and a GAA of 2.67. The Wild will pay the Dallas Stars and the Detroit Red Wings next week.

Ilya Samsonov - Washington Capitals: The Capitals currently hold the number one spot in the league, making Samsonov a must-start. Samsonov had a tough showing in his last game on December 15th against the Chicago Blackhawks. He allowed five goals on 28 shots in that matchup. That game aside, he has been having a good year as the Capitals continue to prove that their era of dominance is not yet over. He has a record of 11-2-2, along with a save percentage of .910 and a GAA of 2.64. The Capitals will face off against the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders this next week.

Andrei Vasilevskiy - Tampa Bay Lightning: Vasilevskiy has the most impressive win streak on this week’s list, as he has earned victories in six consecutive contests. He has not lost a single game in the month of December. The last time that Vasilevskiy failed to crack a .900 save percentage was all the way back on November 20th. He has a record of 16-4-3. Through his 23 appearances this season, he has accumulated a save percentage of .928 and a GAA of 2.10. The Tampa Bay Lightning will play the Vegas Golden Knights and the Arizona Coyotes this next week.

Good Options

John Gibson - Anaheim Ducks: Gibson is coming off his worst showing of the season on December 17th against the Arizona Coyotes. During that game he allowed six goals on 27 shots to end his night with a save percentage of .778. That was the lowest single-game save percentage he has posted all year. That game aside, Gibson usually posts good individual numbers. However, he has been fluctuating between the wins and losses columns as of late. He has a record of 11-7-5, along with a save percentage of .913 and a GAA of 2.71. The Anaheim Ducks will play the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks next week.

Ilya Sorokin - New York Islanders: The Islanders have had an incredibly disappointing 2021 part of this season’s campaign. However, Sorokin’s individual numbers are not that bad. He has two wins in his past three outings. Sorokin’s record currently sits at 7-7-4. He has a save percentage of .926 and a GAA of 2.47. The Islanders will play the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals this upcoming week.

Bad Options

Jake Allen - Montreal Canadiens: Allen has earned losses in his last four starts. He allowed five goals on 31 shots in his last game on December 14th against the Pittsburgh Penguins. His record is struggling so far through this first half of the 2021-2022 campaign. It sits at 5-15-2. Allen has a save percentage of .903 and a GAA of 3.10 through 23 appearances. The Montreal Canadiens will play the New York Islanders, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils this upcoming week.

Spencer Knight - Florida Panthers: The Florida Panthers have paused their season through Christmas as a result of a COVID-19 outbreak. As a result, they have no games this next week. However, this is a good time to analyze Knight’s recent play. In his last five appearances he has only cracked a .900 save percentage once. He had a particularly tough showing on December 14th against the Ottawa Senators, during which he allowed eight goals on 38 shots. It is clear that despite showing promise earlier in the season, the 20-year-old is still early on in his development process. Knight has a record of 6-4-2. Through 13 total appearances, he has a save percentage of .892 and a GAA of 3.42.
