The Cleveland Guardians have released a new line of gear just in time for the gift-giving holidays.
But it isn't easy to find much of it so far in Stark County.
Of the four local sporting goods retailers contacted by The Canton Repository, only one - Logan's Sports in North Canton - expects to carry Guardians items. And that's not until spring.
Earlier this year, the Cleveland team changed its name and logo amid concerns about being insensitive to Native Americans.
The Guardians - a name also shared by a Cleveland roller derby team - is an homage to the figures depicted on the city's iconic Hope Memorial Bridge in downtown Cleveland.
The team has maintained its red, white and blue team colors. And the Guardians logo closely resembles the former logo.
Though Guardians team shops in the Cleveland area are filled and ready to go, finding the gear elsewhere is a little tougher, at least for now.
Several Stark County business owners noted that the price of licenses required to sell professional and NCAA sports merchandise is cost-prohibitive.
One national retailer, Dick's Sporting Goods which has a store in Jackson Township, is advertising Guardians goods.
Shoppers also may purchase gear online on the Cleveland Guardians Team Shop website or at Fanatics.com.
