The Browns are giving Marcus Santos-Silva his first shot at high-level organized football.
A former college basketball player, Santos-Silva signed with the Browns on Monday, the team announced. He is listed as a tight end.
Santos-Silva, 6-foot-6 and 261 pounds, played forward for the Texas Tech (2020-22) and VCU (2017-20) men's basketball teams. He completed his collegiate hoops career with 1,244 points, 957 rebounds and 61 blocked shots. He was voted All-Big 12 honorable mention last season, when he compiled 175 points, 29 blocked shots and 151 rebounds.
Santos-Silva played football from the time he was 7 years old until his freshman year of high school at Vermont Academy, a Browns spokesperson said. Then his main focus became basketball.
According to Santos-Silva's VCU bio, he also played soccer and tennis in high school.
Last week, Santos-Silva's agents announced his quest to make it in the NFL.
