Clemson DT Bryan Bresee done for season; RB Will Shipley expected to miss 3-4 weeks

Clemson football will try to regroup without a couple of key pieces.

The Tigers (2-2), who dropped a double-overtime game Saturday at N.C. State and dropped out of the College Football Playoff picture, lost two of their best players because of injuries.

Sophomore defensive tackle Bryan Bresee suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season. Freshman running back Will Shipley, the team's leading rusher, has a leg injury (knee/shin area) that will have him on crutches for at least the next couple of weeks.

Senior linebacker James Skalski, who suffered a shoulder injury, is "going to be fine" and expects to be available in Saturday's 7:30 p.m. home game against Boston College, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said.

Bresee made an immediate impact last season and was named ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as All-America.

"It's unfortunate, but injuries are a part of the game," Swinney said. "This will be part of his journey. I just appreciate him and his effort. What an unbelievable player he is. Just an incredible leader. I don't have any doubt that when we get him out there and see him again, he'll be better than ever."

Swinney said he expects Bresee will be ready when the Tigers open fall practice for the 2022 season.

"He'll have the ACL surgery and we're actually going to clean out some stuff in his shoulder, too, while we're at it," Swinney said. "He's got plenty of time to get well. Post-spring, once we really start our offseason stuff and get into our summer planning and all that, he'll be full-go and ready to get back at it."

Swinney said the Tigers feel fortunate that Shipley did not suffer a season-ending injury as well.

"He'll be back somewhere in the next few weeks," Swinney said. "That's a huge, huge plus for us. We were not optimistic there."
