City of Pullman declares emergency ahead of 'College GameDay' visit to Washington State
The City of Pullman is going all out to ensure that the first “College GameDay” visit to Washington State is a success.
According to Pullman Radio, the city has declared an emergency in order to prepare for the influx of fans into town ahead of Saturday’s sold out game between the 25th-ranked Cougars and No. 12 Oregon. The decision, approved by the city council Tuesday night, “allows Pullman Transit buses to help move fans around campus on Saturday.”
WSU needs extra buses for its park and ride locations as Gameday is expected to bring in additional fans who will not be attending the sold out football game. WSU officials asked the city for some buses after being unable to find private bus services to accommodate the massive crowd.
According to ESPN’s Chris Fallica, who has worked for “GameDay” since 1996, this is the first time a city has declared an emergency ahead of the show’s arrival. The show began broadcasting live from campuses beginning in 1993.
Washington State has been part of the show for years
Ol’ Crimson, the Washington State flag, has flown at “GameDay” on a weekly basis dating back to Oct. 18, 2003. This past weekend in Ann Arbor was the 216th straight week Ol’ Crimson made an appearance at “GameDay.”
The flag won’t have to travel as far on Saturday.

As the “GameDay” bus and equipment trucks made their way into Pullman, they have been given quite a welcome from the Wazzu faithful.

Now that Washington State is set to host “GameDay,” only 11 Power Five schools have yet to host the show: Cal, Duke, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia and Wake Forest.
