City of Aiken provides early Easter festivities for kids

Apr. 9—Dozens of kids and about 2,000 plastic eggs were part of Saturday's scenery at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior and Youth Center, with the City of Aiken Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism offering an early Easter egg hunt.

Kids were divided into age groups to dash for the goodies, and each dash included a chance at a golden egg that could be turned in for a gift basket. A free lunch — hot dogs and chips — was also among the offerings as was a soundtrack by way of D.J. Byron Bush.

The annual event, with breezy conditions and temperatures in the low 50s this time, was slated to be held at Perry Memorial Park, but the Price site was chosen instead due to too much moisture at the Perry site.

Reactions varied widely, as Wagener resident Ashlynn Cates confirmed, through the experiences of her 18-month-old boys. "I have twins, and one of them loved it and had a wonderful time. The other one didn't care anything about the eggs. He just wanted to run around and play, but did not pick up a single egg, and the other child is the one who picked up the golden egg," she said.

"They both loved the Easter Bunny, and it was fun to meet the Easter Bunny," she added, referring to one of the event's most prominent participants.

Helping to sponsor Saturday's festivities were such boosters as Southern Charm Salon and Boutique, Chandler Law Firm, People of the World Holding Hands, LongHorn Steakhouse and Aiken Ophthalmology.
