Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow on his availability for Monday: 'We'll see.'

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow warmed up but was listed as "did not participate" in the team's first practice ahead of their "Monday Night Football" game against the Los Angeles Rams, according to the official injury report.

While there's no decision yet on Burow's status, he said he was preparing as if he's playing against the Rams and that he's feeling a little better during his regularly scheduled press conference Thursday.

"Not as sore. Time heals. So, we'll see," Burrow said.

Burrow said he feels like he wouldn't need to be a full participant in practice this week in order to suit up against the Rams.

"I wouldn't say that's the case," Burrow said. "I feel good about where I'm at and I feel good about the progress I've made. I wouldn't say that (practicing in full) needs to happen."

Burrow also said he hasn't given any thought to sitting out a few weeks to rest.

"There haven't been any discussions like that, we're kind of taking it day by day," Burrow said. "I'm preparing like I'm gonna go out and play a 'Monday Night Football' game. Whether that happens, I don't know. But I'm gonna be prepared to."

Burrow, who "tweaked " his injured calf in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens, has battled his calf injury since the second day of training camp.

The Bengals are 0-2 for the second straight season, with both losses coming to division foes this season. The Bengals haven't lost three consecutive games since a five-game skid in 2020, when Burrow went down with a season-ending knee injury.

"We just take it week by week. I think that’s why we’ve been so good. If you’re looking too far in the future, too far in the past, you’re not able to focus on the present," Burrow said of the team's resiliency in recent years.

Does the team's 0-2 start add to the urgency to return from the injury?

"It's in my head, for sure. I'm thinking about it," Burrow said.

If Burrow is unable to play Monday, Jake Browning is anticipated to be the starter.

"He's prepared as I've ever seen him," Burrow said of his backup. "He practices really hard. He prepares in the film room very hard. I have all the confidence in the world in him if I'm not ready to go."
