Pamela Maldonado breaks down the most overrated and underrated traditions of the holiday season.
PAMELA MALDONADO: Food, friends, family, and football. Is there really anything better during the holidays? Pam Maldonado, bringing you an "Overrated Underrated." This time, looking at the Christmas holidays.
- Wrapping gifts.
PAMELA MALDONADO: Over rated. Gift wrapping has to be the single-handedly most hardest thing to do on the planet. It is impossible. It never looks good. I don't know bows. I don't tape. I don't know angles. I don't know how to do boxes. What I do know is football stats.
Did you know they sell double sided tape? Who does that? And why do you put it in the Christmas aisle? It is so hard to use.
- Gift bags.
PAMELA MALDONADO: Highly underrated. If you are like me, don't even attempt to wrap a gift on your own. Instead, toss it in a bag, throw in some nice looking crinkly tissue paper, and call it a day. I did not do this. I wish I did this. Tip, if you are buying gifts online, most will offer online gift wrapping services for a few dollars. Pay the extra bucks.
- "The Polar Express."
PAMELA MALDONADO: An absolutely underrated holiday film. It is the 2004 animated movie with one of the best actors, Tom Hanks, who let's be real is a national treasure. The story is about a kid who goes on a wild adventure train ride to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus. It doesn't get any better than that. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
PAMELA MALDONADO: My gosh, what a highly overrated movie. If we're talking about one of the worst holiday films of all time, "Elf" definitely has to be up there. Don't watch it. Will Ferrell, he's definitely funny. He's hilarious. This movie, not so much.
Ferrell plays an elf named Buddy. He's rude to Santa. He's rude to his adopted dad. He is a grown ass man in an elf costume who eats cotton balls and shouts all the dang time. It's not pleasing. There's so many other good movies that are worth a watch. Not this one.
- The holidays.
PAMELA MALDONADO: Under rated. Spending time with family and friends, eating good food, drinking good wine, sharing laughs, and making memories. That is an activity that never gets old. And if there's anything that we've learned from 2020, and even now in 2021, is to cherish these moments.
That is it for the holiday edition of "Overrated Underrated." Did I leave anything off the list? Let me know. And from all of us at the Yahoo Sports Book, happy holidays.
