Shortly after the Yankees beat the Red Sox on Monday night, improving to 16-6 as they knocked Boston to an AL-worst 6-17, Sox catcher Christian Vazquez weighed in on the team's 1-14 record at Yankee Stadium since 2018.
"They have no rings, and I have one," Vazquez told reporters. "We beat them in the playoffs. I love my ring."
The Sox have lost 11-straight games at Yankee Stadium, but won the 2018 World Series as Vazquez hit .200/.200/.200 in 15 plate appearances. That season, Boston beat the Yankees in four games in the ALDS before taking down the Houston Astros in the ALCS.
Boston has won the World Series twice (2013 and 2018) since the Yankees last won (2009).
But the timing of the swipe by Vazquez seemed a bit odd, coming fresh off his team having just gotten drubbed.
The Red Sox and Yankees have one more series this season, from Sept. 18-20 at Fenway Park in Boston.
