Christian Pulisic becomes first US men's international to score in Champions League semifinal

Christian Pulisic became the first U.S. men's international to score in a UEFA Champions League semifinal, as he opened the scoring for Chelsea during a 1-1 draw at Real Madrid in Tuesday's first leg.

After 13 minutes of play, Pulisic rolled past defenders and fired against Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The 22-year-old now leads top American scorers in Champions League history with five goals, ahead of DaMarcus Beasley with four.

Madrid's Karim Benzema scored later in the first half.

"The goal was well deserved and we should have scored at least one more," Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said after the match. "We conceded more or less out of nothing and that can always happen against individual quality.

"It was a disappointing score at half-time. We had to stay calm and not lose confidence. The second half was very tactical, you could feel that we are a bit tired. We only had a few days to recover from another tough away game. We have to live with 1-1."

Pulisic, who has started six of Chelsea's last eight matches, is now the first U.S. men's player to score in any game against Real Madrid.
