Pulisic becomes first American to score in Champions League semis originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Christian Pulisic continues to do things on the soccer pitch no American has ever done before.

On Tuesday, the 22-year-old U.S. Men's National Team star became the first American to score in the UEFA Champions League semifinal round when he found the back of the net for Chelsea against Real Madrid.

Pulisic's strike was Chelsea's lone goal in the contest, as the Blues drew with Real Madrid, 1-1, in the first leg. The London side will host the second leg next week on May 5 with the winner advancing to the final.

The goal from Pulisic was also his fifth career Champions League goal, moving him past DaMarcus Beasley for the most goals by an American in Europe's top annual club competition.

Over the past few weeks, Pulisic has been in his best form of the season. After dealing with injuries earlier on, Pulisic has started six of Chelsea's last eight matches. For the season, Pulisic has two goals in eight Champions League appearances and four goals in 23 Premier League games.

Americans will next see Pulisic suit up for the national team in June. The qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup begins in September as the United States tries to make amends for missing out on the tournament in Russia in 2018. Pulisic, who at age 18 left the field in tears in Trinidad when the Americans were eliminated from World Cup qualifying in 2017, will be a huge part of that effort.
