It was an extraordinary week for the club from SW6 - even by Chelsea’s very high standards of late. But refreshingly, it was extraordinary for the right reasons.
The big win at Tottenham and thrilling 4-4 draw with champions Manchester City represented perhaps the clearest sign yet that, after months of turbulence and disruption, things may finally be starting to settle down under the stewardship of Mauricio Pochettino.
One of the most striking images at the full-time whistle after Sunday’s exhilarating encounter at Stamford Bridge was the fiery and passionate post-match reaction of the Blues boss. His anger that referee Anthony Taylor called time on proceedings when his team were mounting one last attack showed a side we haven’t seen to him yet.
He spoke before the game about taking the game to Pep Guardiola’s side and being the "protagonists" in the encounter - and they certainly lived up to that billing. The fearlessness they played with - embodied by new star Cole Palmer - will have the Stamford Bridge faithful hoping this is a sign of things to come as they look to really ignite their campaign - with two-thirds of the season yet to come and it still all to play for.
Pochettino seems to have taken real steps to ingratiate himself to the Chelsea fanbase.
With games against Newcastle United, Brighton and Manchester United to come, there’s a growing sense that this club is very much moving in the right direction.
After already taking points off Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and City, there’s now no denying Chelsea look set to play a key role in how this highly competitive title race plays out.
