Chelsea beware: FIFA set to bring in new loan laws

Fifa’s are reportedly attempting to bring in new laws which would restrict the amount of players clubs can have out on loan.

Fifa’s proposed limit is just eight players out loan, which could be a huge blow for Chelsea; the Blues currently have 40 players away from the club on short-term deals.

Reports in Germany are claiming football’s governing body want to implement the strict new rule in a bid to curb top clubs hoovering up top talent.

Chelsea have long been accused of signing footballers with huge potential to stop rivals from snapping them up, only to send them out on loan before selling them for a profit.

Juventus are another major European side to follow that model, with 26 players leaving on short-term deals this season.

The rules would not apply to players who have come through their club’s academy, and only players who were outright purchased.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino said: “It is important to establish a few rules as a limitation of squad sizes or the number of players out on loan.

“Talents under the age of 21 who have been trained by their home club and have been under contract there for an extended period of time may continue to be borrowed in unlimited numbers to further their development by collecting match practice elsewhere.”

Fifa are desperate to avoid another farce like Parma in 2014-15 – when the Serie A club had 181 players join the club and 205 leave.
