Young on forced fumble: 'I know a quarterback can’t run through me' originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
On a fourth-and-goal for Cincinnati, it appeared that quarterback Joe Burrow had a path toward the end zone as he scrambled outside the pocket. Young, however, had other plans, blowing up the play with a hit on Burrow that forced a fumble.
Following the game, Young spoke to NBC Sports Washington's 'Washington Postgame Live' crew what was going through his head on the play. As he saw Burrow break contain, it became clear there was only one way for the quarterback to go.
“I knew it was one of my teammates coming on the outside. So I was like ‘Hm, coming on the outside, he’s gotta cut it up,'" Young said. "So I said ‘Oh yeah.'"
Knowing that he had the opportunity to get to Burrow, he decided to go all-out to make the play. And he knew what the outcome would be.
“I said, in my mind, it’s like I know a quarterback can’t run through me," Young said. "So I’m just going to give everything I got and that’s what I did. You know, it’s just one of those football plays, I had to go.”
