Charlevoix County voters approve ballot proposals

All three Charlevoix County millage proposals were passed in the primary election on Aug. 2.

The transit millage renewal won by 5,688 to 2,066, the parks millage renewal was 5,712 to 2,039 and the veterans millage renewal was 6,641 to 1,132.

The transit proposal permits Charlevoix County to restore the .25 mill, previously approved by the electors for the purpose of providing funds for the operation of the county transit system. If levied in its entirety, it is estimated the .25 mill will raise an estimated $591,389 in its first year.

The parks proposal permits the county to restore the .15 mill, previously approved by the electors for the purpose of providing funds for the operation of county parks and funding the county program to improve other parks within the county. If levied in its entirety, it is estimated the .15 mill will raise an estimated $354,833 for the county in the first year of collection.

The veterans proposal will permit the county to restore the .1 mill, previously approved by the electors for the purpose of providing funds for the operation of the county veterans affairs department. If levied in its entirety, it is estimated the .1 mill will raise an estimated $236,555 in the first year.
