Chargers QB Justin Herbert makes NFL history vs. Chiefs

Chargers rookie quarterback Justin Herbert carved his name into the record books against the Chiefs Sunday.

Herbert became the first player in NFL history with a rushing and passing touchdown in the first half of their debut game since 1954 since Bob Clatterbuck of the Giants in 1954, per NFL History.

Herbert made his debut after Tyrod Taylor was unable to start the game due to a chest injury. Taylor was listed as questionable, but he was eventually ruled out.

While many didn’t believe that Herbert would be ready to start this soon, Los Angeles’ first-round pick has shown that the stage isn’t too big for him.

Through three quarters of action, the former Oregon product has thrown for 273 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-28 passing.

Herbert has made a couple of head-scratching mistakes, including a pass thrown into triple coverage that was picked off, but he has masked those with throws like this:
