Chaotic Week 10 leads to shakeup in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll
A wild weekend of college football means there were sure to be some modifications to this week’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, and the results did not disappoint. The top two spots in the poll remained unchanged with No. 1 Georgia receiving the lion’s share of the first-place votes and No. 2 Ohio State continuing to hold steady behind the defending national champions. But all but one of the other spots in the top 25 saw some change this week.
Penn State managed to move up one spot amid all of the changes in this week’s coaches poll. The Nittany Lions benefitted from No. 22 Kansas State falling eight spots after a loss at home to No. 18 Texas.
Perhaps the most notable changes this week are seeing No. 11 Alabama and No. 12 Clemson tumbling out of the top 10 after suffering losses this weekend. Alabama has dropped five spots from No. 6 last week after being stunned in overtime by No. 8 LSU (up nine spots, leaping over Penn State in the process). Clemson tumbled seven spots from No. 5 after a blowout loss at No. 25 Notre Dame, who returns to the top 25 after rebounding from an abysmal start to the season thanks to a couple of top 25 wins against ACC contenders Clemson and Syracuse.
Three teams — Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, and Syracuse — dropped out of the top 25 this week after suffering a loss. Newcomers in this week’s poll in addition to Notre Dame include Texas and No. 23 Washington.
