What hints did Brad Stevens offer about offseason plans? originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Celtics haven't had much time to digest their NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors. They'll have to move on quickly with the 2022 NBA Draft and free agency rapidly approaching.

Brad Stevens has some decisions to make in his second offseason as C's president. He acknowledged the fine line the team has to walk this offseason between improving the roster but not blowing up a group that nearly brought home Banner 18. So, what kind of approach should Boston's front office have this offseason?

Forsberg: How Brad Stevens can get C's back to the Finals

Chris Forsberg was joined by MassLive.com's Brian Robb on a new episode of the Celtics Talk Podcast to break down Stevens' comments and how they may have hinted at the C's offseason plans.

"The thing that stood out to me is him saying there's a fine line the team has to walk this offseason between -- obviously they have the ability to bring their whole rotation back, everyone's under contract and maybe you could just add along the fringes," Robb said. "Or, do you try to make a bigger splash with some of these trade exceptions and other tools they have in their toolbox to make things better for them this offseason? The fact he's already acknowledging that is going to maybe be the question of the offseason."

As Forsberg notes, Stevens will be careful to not ruin the identity the team worked so hard to build throughout the 2021-22 campaign.

"It felt like he acknowledged they need to get better, but also sort of stressed the fragility with which you operate because this team has an identity," he said. "You can tell how much it mattered to Brad that they were all sort of pulling in the right direction. So naturally you start wondering, Bradley Beal's name will inevitably come up, these other high-priced guys they could potentially pursue whether it's by trade or by using the $17.1 million Evan Fournier trade exception. ...

"That fine line to me is not overreacting and understanding you could probably splurge a little bit to add someone to the bench but it also has to be the right player. It's hard for me to envision a scenario where it makes sense to make one of those bigger pursuits."

Also discussed in the episode: Who should the Celtics focus their attention on adding with their $17.1M trade exemption? Which younger guy on the team is most likely to make a big step next season? Should we believe that no Celtics are ‘anticipated’ to have offseason surgery? Do they all really just need to rest? And is there any way the Celtics add Bradley Beal this summer?
