Celtics point guard alumnus Tremont Waters plays in Greater Hartford Pro-Am, hopes to inspire next generation

Former Boston Celtics floor general Tremont Waters made a trip back to his native Connecticut to play in Greater Hartford Pro-Am recently, and spoke with the Hartford Courant’s Joe Arruda about participating in an event he grew up watching. “It’s a dope thing to be able to come back and play,” offered Waters after he’d played.

“That’s very inspirational. I know there’s kids around that are coming to watch, and you never know who is going to grow to become the next player to be able to play in this,” offered the LSU product of an event he spent much time at with his father as a kid.

“That’s pretty inspirational for me,” emphasized Waters.

Waters, Boston’s No. 51 pick of the 2019 NBA draft, signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency, and has since had stops playing for the Toronto Raptors, Washington Wizards, South Bay Lakers, and Puerto Rican club Gigantes de Carolina.

“Along my journey, playing with the Celtics, going to Puerto Rico, going from state to state playing with G League teams — I’m just literally having fun, enjoying it and just trying to give back as much as I can when it comes to helping younger guys play.”

“I’m just enjoying my journey,” Waters said of a career that took the New Haven native from the Greater Hartford Pro-Am and now to France’s Metropolitans 92.

“Whatever happens along the way, I’m going to take it on the chin and just continue to do what I can to just fight through everything,” said Waters.

And so far, undersized though he might be for NBA standards at 5-foot-10, the former Celtics point guard has stood tall throughout a sometimes-turbulent career, fighting through every challenge that’s come his way so far.
