The Boston Celtics have been inquiring after the availability of Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon per multiple reports, and with The Athletic’s Jared Weiss and Sam Amick hearing the Magic forward has formally requested a trade, things could get thick and heavy quickly on that front.

Armed with the massive $28.5 million traded player exception (TPE) generated from veteran forward Gordon Hayward’s sign-and-trade to the Charlotte Hornets in the offseason, the Celtics have not exactly been very shy about making it known they are looking to make a move that makes sense for the team on this year’s trade market.

And while team president Danny Ainge has made it known he won’t deal just to deal, a move for Gordon makes sense.

The Athletic's Shams Charania relates the Celtics are competing with the Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers, and Weiss shares that the ask is "multiple first-round picks or a pick with a good young player." "The Magic have the league’s fourth-worst record after a 112-96 blowout loss in Boston Sunday and this appears to be their window to cash in on their non-essential veterans," he adds.

The fact that Boston can take in Gordon with the TPE gives the Celtics an advantage, according to Weiss, but keeping out of the luxury tax this season is a priority for the team. There are a number of ways that could be accomplished in such a deal should both sides pull the trigger, but as with everything at this time of year, much of it may never come to pass in the first place.
