CCS girls, NHS boys one win from state; T-Wolves get rematch with Westmoore

Feb. 28—Several local schools saw their seasons end during the regional tournament last weekend, but four teams still remain in the hunt for a spot in the state tournament.

The state tournament for all classes begin next week. The 6A state tournaments begin on Wednesday and ends on Saturday with all games at the Lloyd Noble Center.

The 3A state tournament will be held at State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City and will go from Tuesday thru Saturday.

Here's where local schools are competing at area tournaments this weekend:

3A Area IV

at Ada

Community Christian vs. Jones

When: Friday, 6 p.m.

What's at stake: The Royals are just one win away from punching their ticket to the state tournament.

They've gone 3-0 in the postseason so far and beat ninth-ranked Kingston in the regional finals by 13 points. The Royals have won six straight, but face Jones team with an identical 20-4 overall record that's won its last nine.

The loser of Friday's game will still have another chance to advance to state with a win on Saturday at 6 p.m.

6A West

at Shawnee

Norman High vs. Piedmont

When: Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

What's at stake: The Tigers enter the area tournament with their backs against the wall, but have faced elimination in their last two games and walked away with dominant victories.

The winner of Thursday's game will play again on Saturday at 2 p.m. to face either Edmond North or Mustang with a state tournament berth on the line.

6A West

at Noble

Norman High vs. Deer Creek

When: Friday, 6 p.m.

What's at stake: The Tigers need one win in their next two games to make it back to the state tournament for the second season in a row.

They've won 14 straight games and won both of their regional matchups by 15 or more. The loser of Friday's game will play either Putnam City North or Putnam City West in the area finals in Shawnee on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

It's the second season in a row the Tigers have faced the Antlers in the area tournament. Last year, Norman High won 66-56, but the Antlers won their next game to advance to state.

at Shawnee

Norman North vs. Westmoore

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

What's at stake: The Timberwolves would be eliminated with another loss the rest of the way, but start off the area tournament against a familiar opponent in the Jaguars.

The two sides met in December at the Joe Lawson Memorial Invitational and the Timberwolves pulled out a 52-41 win. The win gave the Timberwolves some slight redemption after falling to the Jaguars in a heartbreaker in overtime in this same game last season.

The winner of Friday's game will move on to face either Edmond North or Moore on Saturday at 6 p.m.
