CC Sabathia wins 'Star Wars Day' by dressing up as Yoda

May the Fourth — or Star Wars Day, as it has become widely known — is upon us, and once again it has taken over Major League Baseball.

That’s especially true in New York, where Yankees pitcher — and the newest member of MLB’s 3,000-strikeout clubCC Sabathia, won the day by taking his Star Wars fandom to an entirely new level.

The 6-foot-6 hurler went to the makeup chair and was transformed into a hulking version of Yoda, the popular character who is one-third of a Sabathia.

He then ventured to the concourse at Yankee Stadium so he could assist in handing out his Star Wars bobblehead before the Yankees game on Saturday against the Minnesota Twins.

How cool is that?

Even the non-Star Wars fans had to be appreciative of Sabathia’s level of commitment. They were certainly pleased they were able to interact with him to this degree on a game day.

Star Wars fanatic

In a 2018 interview with StarWars.com, Sabathia confirmed that he’s been a huge Star Wars fan since.

My earliest Star Wars memory, I think, is my dad taking me to see the first one. And, I just remember walking in, being mesmerized by, like, what I was seeing on the screen and just being locked in. He was such a big Star Wars fan that it kind of made me one immediately.

And now it’s something he enjoys with his children as well.

My kids love it. They’re all into it. My youngest son, he’s seven, he’s the biggest fan. But my girls have gotten into it now because of Rey…the last two movies, they really loved it and they’ve gone back and watched the rest of them, so we watch it as a family now. The whole series.

Sabathia also revealed that he plans on attending a few Star Wars conventions once he’s retired. Knowing now that 2019 will be his final season, don’t be surprised if those appearances start happening soon.
