CC Sabathia says farewell to Cleveland with superhero style on the All-Star Game red carpet
CLEVELAND — CC Sabathia isn’t an All-Star this season, but here at the 2019 All-Star Game, he’s turned into something bigger.
By the look of things on the red carpet, he’s a super hero.
Sabathia, the 38-year-old New York Yankees hurler, is back in Cleveland as a farewell in his final MLB season. He’s an All-Star ambassador, of sorts. He threw out the first pitch Tuesday night and participated in a number of All-Star activities.
Cleveland, after all, is where his big-league career began. He was drafted by the Indians in 1998 and won a Cy Young here. It was the beginning of a likely Hall of Fame career that has now surpassed both 250 wins and 3,000 strikeouts.
So the All-Star return? It had to be super and super colorful. For that, his wife Amber took the reins.
“CC loves us matching,” Amber Sabathia told Yahoo Sports. “But I’m the mastermind behind it all.”
This time, she gathered superhero-themed clothes by Dolce and Gabbana for herself, CC and their four kids. Amber wore a Leopard Queen dress. CC’s shirt was colorful with illustrated DG superheroes.
“We’re like the Sabathia Six,” Amber said.
What brought CC’s outfit together was a colorful pair of Air Jordan IVs he had on ice that happened to match perfectly.
“I’ve been sitting on these for some years,” he said with a laugh. “I got some stuff in my closet.”

So it was only the best for Cleveland and the All-Star Game.
“This is like our first home,” Amber said.
“This is home,” CC continued. “To be able to come here and enjoy the All-Star Game, and have the league want me to be here and enjoy everything and have my kids be around, it’s an incredible experience.”
