CBS Sports moves UNC basketball into Top 25 and 1 rankings

The UNC basketball program has been very active in the transfer portal so far, losing six players and adding four. The roster will look significantly different than last year, and Hubert Davis has the tough task of fixing this roster on the fly and getting them back to the NCAA Tournament.

So far, the Tar Heels have added some talent to the roster and are probably better than they were to end the year. And we aren’t the only ones that think that.

Gary Parrish of CBS Sports updated his early Top 25 and 1 to reflect the latest moves out of the portal. While North Carolina was No. 27 in the initial rankings, it has moved up one spot to No. 26 in the rankings. Here is what Parrish had to say about the Tar Heels:

This ranking is based on the Tar Heels returning two of the top three scorers – RJ Davis and Armando Bacot – from a team that spent much of the season ranked in the top 30 at KenPom. The addition of Harrison Ingram, Cormac Ryan and Jae’Lyn Withers via the transfer portal should provide Hubert Davis with enough to return to the 2024 NCAA Tournament after the Tar Heels missed it in 2023.

North Carolina is ranked No. 3 among Atlantic Coast Conference teams, behind only No. 4 Duke and No. 13 Miami.

Now, a lot can and will happen between now and the start of the regular season, so it’s tough to judge anything by these rankings. But it’s nice to see the Tar Heels getting some respect for the offseason they have had.
