CBS Sports’ Boomer Esiason: ‘What is Brian Daboll doing?’
Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, like other onlookers, were very critical of Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll in Week 9.
On Sunday, the Bills (5-3) fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was a mess for both offenses in the 9-6 final.
Esiason, soon after the game in the CBS Sports studios, did not hold back on his feelings toward Daboll after the stunning loss for Buffalo.
“Now all of a sudden, what is Brian Daboll doing?” Esiason said after discussing the positives Daboll showed last season. “Doesn’t he have to sit down with the quarterback and just say, ‘Hey, look man, this is what we’re trying to do. This is our plan. You don’t have to do this all yourself.'”

Specifically. Esiason believed there was a problem with Buffalo’s rushing attack. In their recent game, running backs only had nine carries combined between Devin Singletary and Zack Moss.
“They should be thinking about running the ball late in the season. That’s how you win games in inclement weather. You’ve got an all-weather quarterback. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a superstar. He’s a great player. But right now, in the last couple of weeks, I don’t know what’s going on up there,” Esiason said.
“They just need to get back to calling the right plays, but someone has to hold the offensive coordinator accountable and say, ‘Come on in here. Let’s sit down and talk about what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong. And how we can get it back to the right side of the ledger,'” he added.
On Monday, Daboll did address Buffalo’s struggles himself. He recognized his part it in and took some ownership of the rushing woes.
“We need to improve every area,” Daboll said via video conference. “It’s an area we’re working hard to improve.”
Now it just remains to be seen if any changes do happen.
Since quarterback Josh Allen’s breakout 2020 season, Buffalo hasn’t leaned much on the rushing attack at all.
That probably causes a problem for the rushers themselves since they can’t get into a groove.
In addition, Daboll might run the ball if his offensive line could improve their play. It was a very poor outing from them against the Jaguars, one that cannot be repeated.
