CBS’ post-Super Bowl NFL mock draft sends Cooper DeJean to star contender

Cooper DeJean was in the spotlight as a star defensive back for the Iowa Hawkeyes throughout his career. When he goes to the NFL in this year’s draft, he is going to be under brighter lights than ever.

Dallas, Texas, is one place the lights shine brighter than everywhere else. The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most-watched and discussed franchises in sports.

CBS Sports’ post-Super Bowl 2024 NFL mock draft sends DeJean there. It has the Hawkeyes’ defensive back going to the brightest lights of his young career yet with Dallas’ No. 24 overall pick in the first round.

The ball-hawking DeJean can line up just about anywhere (and he’s an asset in the return game, too) and that versatility and rare athleticism are what make him such an enticing prospect. Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports

DeJean would be a masterful fit into the Cowboys’ defensive scheme. Their cornerback positions are manned by two of the league’s best ballhawks, Trevon Diggs and Daron Bland, who had nine interceptions, including five returned for touchdowns in 2023. The two have combined for 32 interceptions in their young careers.

This sort of stability in the secondary would allow Dallas to use DeJean all over the field. He could be a slot corner, slide back to the safety spot and use his instincts, or rotate on the outside while learning under two of the league’s best.

Should this mock draft come to fruition, DeJean goes from the Iowa bright lights to some of the brightest lights in professional sports.
