CBS debuted its mid-round mic’d-up segment with Max Homa on Friday. Here are 6 players we’d love to see do it next

CBS has long been criticized for its golf broadcasts, accused of little to no ingenuity with a stale viewing experience.

However, if its first round of 2023 is any indication, golf fans should be happy with the direction CBS is heading in.

Max Homa agreed to wear a microphone on the par-5 13th hole at Torrey Pines during the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open. Throughout the segment, the broadcasters peppered him with questions, yearning to learn more about his mindset and process.

All in all, it was a success. In fact, with Homa going on to win, maybe others will seek out their turn next.

Twitter users approved, many saying they were looking forward to the next one and that got us thinking: who should be next?

Here are six players we hope agree to be part of the new mic’d-up segment.

Jordan Spieth is perfect for this.

One of the most beloved things in golf is listening in on a Spieth/Greller conversation. This would take that to the next level.

The Texan was great in the most recent Match, teaming up with Justin Thomas to beat Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Spieth is one of the funniest guys on Tour and would be able to provide high-level insight every step of the way.

This one is a no-brainer.

Justin Thomas

Speaking of JT, he’s next on the list.

If you’ve watched him in the few Match installments he has been involved with, including when he was the on-course reporter, you know how good Thomas would be in this segment.

The insight, the sense of humor and being a fan favorite doesn’t hurt.

Tom Kim

Talk about electric. This kid just gets it.

Tom Kim has quickly turned himself into one of the most adored players on Tour, by both fans and his fellow pros.

Make it happen, CBS.

Rory McIlroy

The world No. 1 has been part of a few mic’d-up events, including the latest edition of the Match series.

He’s been at the forefront of the “grow the game” movement that’s come about since LIV Golf made its presence known, so we could see him saying yes to this.

His insight would be great, but the opportunity to ask him about everything that’s going on in the sport would be too good to pass up. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s one of the best press conferences in all of sports, easy to see that transfer over to this.

Harry Higgs

The big man. Higgs was born for this.

He’s been great the last few years in The Shorties Classic and, like Kim, is one of the most widely liked players in the game.

His personality and sense of humor are second to none and we feel like he’d embrace the experience. Another no-brainer.

Joel Dahmen

Higgs’ shirtless partner. Another guy that would thrive in this segment.

Dahmen was alongside Higgs in the latest Shorties Classic and was fantastic. He has also done several videos with YouTube creators, so he’d be used to the setup.
