Cavs unretire Larry Nance's No. 22 so Larry Nance Jr. can wear it
As soon as the Cavaliers made the deadline deal that brought Larry Nance Jr. to Cleveland from the Los Angeles Lakers, Nance’s dad was on a mission.
Larry Nance, a high flyer who averaged 17.1 points and 8 rebounds during a seven-year run with the Cavs alongside Brad Daugherty and Mark Price, had his No. 22 jersey retired in Cleveland. And he wanted it put back in circulation so his son could wear it.
“Well, it really wasn’t a conversation because as soon as he called me and let me now that he got traded here, I called the Cavs and said, ‘He can have the number. Please, give him the number,’ Nance said on ESPN’s Golic and Wingo.
On Thursday, Nance got his wish.

“I’m thrilled,” Nance said. “I’ve been wearing No. 22 for my whole life and to be able to wear it for the Cleveland Cavaliers is beyond a dream come true.”

ESPN reports that Nance Jr. will start wearing No. 22 next week and that Nance’s banner will remain in the rafters while his son wears his number.
Larry Nance Jr. just announced before the game that he’ll start wearing his dad’s No. 22 starting next week. Nance Sr.’s No. 22 banner will still hang in The Q when he wears it. Tonight he’ll still be in No. 24.
