The Cleveland Cavaliers, currently third place in the Eastern Conference, are about to get stronger.
Thomas will come off the bench and be on a minutes restriction, per ESPN.
Thomas, 28, is a two-time All-Star and made the All-NBA team last season. He averaged 28.9 points and 5.9 assists for the Boston Celtics. Thomas and the Celtics made the Eastern Conference Finals and lost to the Cavs. Thomas was then traded to the Cavs over the offseason.
RELATED: WHICH BACKCOURT IS BEST?
Thomas has yet to play this season due to a torn labrum in his right hip. He didn't have surgery, so it will be interesting to see how long it takes for him to get back up to speed. He will also be adjusting to a new supporting cast.
The Cavs have plenty of time to get him acclimated, as we're still weeks away from the midway point of the season. But his return has major implications on the rest of the East. Thomas is a very good player and should take pressure off of LeBron James. Thomas is one of the best scorers in the game.
The Wizards have already played the Cavs twice this season and lost both times. By the next time they meet on Feb. 22, Thomas will likely be in midseason form.
We'll see how things stack up between the teams at that point.
