A's catcher Bruce Maxwell arrested after allegedly pointing gun at woman

Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell, the first MLB player to take a knee during the national anthem, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault Saturday night after allegedly pointing a gun at a female delivery driver in Arizona.

According to a TMZ report, Scottsdale Police say Maxwell was arrested at 6:08 p.m. local time. He remains in custody after being booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.

Maxwell made headlines in September when he became the first major league baseball player to kneel during the national anthem. At the time, Maxwell said he was kneeling for those who “didn’t have a voice in the face of social injustice.”

Last week, Maxwell accused an Alabama waiter of recognizing him and refusing to serve him because of his decision to kneel. Maxwell said the waiter was a supporter of President Donald Trump. The waiter has since refuted that story, calling Maxwell’s story an “absolute lie.”

Maxwell, 26, has appeared in 109 games for the A’s over the past two seasons. The backup catcher is a .251 hitter with four career homers.
