Catch or no catch? Eagles' Zach Ertz scores go-ahead TD in Super Bowl on controversial replay
Catch? No catch?
It’s been the question of the season on the field in the in the NFL.
And it reared its head in one of Super Bowl LII’s pivotal plays.
With the Philadelphia Eagles trailing the New England Patriots, 33-32 with 2:25 remaining, Nick Foles found tight end Zach Ertz on this third down play.
As you can see, the ball bounced in the air after Ertz crossed the goal line, only to land back in his hands to be called a score on the field to give the Eagles a 38-33 lead.

With huge calls in big moments from Calvin Johnson to Dez Bryant to Jesse James being overturned on similar plays, the replay provided some tense moments for Eagles fans.
But referee Gene Steratore addressed the U.S. Bank Field crowd of mostly Eagles fans after the replay with the good news (for them) that Ertz had established himself as a runner and crossed the goal line for the catch and score that proved to be the difference in Philadelphia’s first Super Bowl win.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently said that the league will review rules that determine a catch in the offseason.
Clarity can’t come soon enough.
