Carson Wentz listed as surprise minicamp standout for Colts
Quarterback Carson Wentz was listed as the surprise standout from Indianapolis Colts minicamp in May by Mike Wells of ESPN.
Though he had only been with his team on the field for two weeks after the Colts revised their workout schedule, Wentz was able to strike up some quick chemistry with his teammates.
“How Wentz looked on the field wasn’t the only important part of the offseason equation for the Colts’ new starting quarterback. The other part was how he would fit in with his teammates after reportedly not having a great relationship with his teammates while with the Philadelphia Eagles. The transition, according to those inside the organization, has been a smooth one. “He comes in and asks about my family, my sister and things like that,” running back Nyheim Hines said. “As a new guy, it’s pretty cool. It shows that he’s caring and trying to take care of us.” And Wentz on the field? He has turned a lot of heads so far. “He has a really pretty deep ball,” Hines said. “I’ve liked everything I’ve seen from him so far.” — Mike Wells”
This seemed to be no issue for Wentz. His teammates raved about his work ethic and attitude throughout the offseason while that may not be all that shocking, it was important to put some of those rumors behind him from his days in Philly.
Now, he has to do it on the field. He has been working with Adam Dedeaux of 3DQB to fix his mechanics, an important aspect to why his decline happened so quickly over the last few years with the Eagles.
Wentz seemingly won the spring but has to prove it during training camp, the preseason and eventually the regular season.
It will be interesting to see how quickly he can make improvements to his game, but Wentz certainly got going on the right foot with his new team during the spring.
