Carmelo Anthony has NSFW clap back for Pelicans fan who says he should retire originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Over the past few years, Carmelo Anthony has been mulling over the idea of hanging up his basketball shoes and jersey and retiring from the NBA.

Before joining the Trail Blazers in 2019, Anthony had a date circled on his calendar for when he would announce his retirement. That all changed when Portland called and the 10-time NBA All-Star was given another chance.

After averaging 15.4 points, and 6.4 rebounds in 58 starts for the Blazers last season, the 36-year-old re-signed with Portland in November and he’s reminded the league he’s not done yet.

On Wednesday night in New Orleans, he had to shout it louder for the people in the back. While there were limited fans in attendance to watch the Pelicans take on the Trail Blazers at Smoothie King Arena, one heckler had a message for the 18-year vet.

"Carmelo, you need to retire!” the fan yelled

The Blazers forward quickly silenced the fan with the coldest response: “Shut yo’ ass up.”

Trail Blazers reporter Casey Holdahl first reported the exchange of words between the fan and future Hall of Famer.

The Pelicans broadcast caught the two chirping at one another too.

Since losing to the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb.1, Anthony has been instrumental in the Trail Blazers winning eight of the past nine games. During that streak, Melo has averaged 16.9 points while shooting 44 percent from the floor and adding 43.5 percent from three-point range.

Like a fine wine, Melo only gets better with age. If other teams don’t like it, he’s got a message for you too.
